The festivities will be in conjunction with sophomore and varsity
boys basketball games versus Olympia's Corn Belt Conference rival
University High School of Normal. The dinner will start at about 5
p.m. and will stop at the end of the first quarter of the varsity
game. The silent auction will be going on in about the same time
frame as the dinner and will have many new items, such as tools,
sports memorabilia, gift cards to local shopping centers and
restaurants, soybean and corn gift cards from local dealers, and
other items of interest that FFA chapter members have solicited from
people in the area of the Olympia school district.
For a small fee per person, people can enjoy a pork chop
sandwich, chips, dessert and a drink while watching two boys
basketball games and viewing the many different silent auction
items.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Olympia High School FFA
Alumni and FFA chapters.
Members of the alumni chapter are past FFA members, current
parents or community members from parts of Logan, Tazewell, DeWitt,
Woodford and McLean counties with an interest in promoting and
enhancing the quality of the vocational agriculture programs at
Olympia High School.
According to Kyle Haning, reporter for the alumni chapter, this
is the organization's main fundraiser for the year. The money from
the event benefits the alumni chapter, which in turn gives back a
portion of the money to the Olympia High School FFA.
The alumni group works closely with the student chapter and the
vocational agriculture program at Olympia High School as members
advise the vo-ag instructor on ways to enhance, promote or maintain
the quality of the ag program at the school and in the area.

The alumni chapter also gets its rewards as members assist the
student chapter and high school ag teacher Matt Nordstrom by helping
cook pork chop and rib-eye sandwiches during the home football
games, being judges at FFA contests and chaperones on field trips.
The alumni chapter helps pay for a portion of the cost of the
jackets for first-year FFA members. The alumni group also provides
funds for special awards and scholarships given to student members
at their FFA chapter banquet. In addition, the alumni chapter issues
a $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior at Olympia High School
in the spring, with various stipulations and guidelines.
