Illinois State
Police District 9 headquarters in Springfield reported Simpson was
northbound on Illinois 121 in a 1995 Buick Century at about 1:07
p.m. Saturday. For unknown reasons, her car crossed the centerline
and struck a vehicle driven by an unidentified 87-year-old woman.
Simpson was transported to Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in
Lincoln, where she was pronounced dead.
The 87-year-old woman was transferred to Memorial Medical Center
in Springfield with non-life-threatening injuries.
The accident is still under investigation, and no charges have
been filed.
