Saturday morning the Kid's Club of the First United Methodist Church in Lincoln sponsored a fundraiser for their program. The money earned Saturday will go toward the purchase of a new van for the club, and according to Julie Hinds-Jackson, the club director, this event may have put them over the top.
The Kid's Club is a summer program as well as an after-school program for school kids age 14 and under. Hinds-Jackson said that the new van is needed as the old one is getting worn out and is used daily during the school year, transporting students to school in the morning, picking them up from school in the evening and bringing them back to the church for food, fun and faith-based activities in the evening.
The program offers peace of mind to working parents, who know that when their kids are at Kid's Club, they are in a safe, secure environment with adult supervision.

With temperatures in the high 90s and a heat index of over 100 degrees, perhaps not everyone made it out to the event who could have. One of the great things they missed was a presentation from the students of Audra's Studio of Dance.

Sensei Daniel Dugan of the Yoshukai Karate Alliance leads a group from four area dojos in a demonstration of the martial art while spectators seek some cool air under a nearby shade tree.

Those who did suffer through the heat got the opportunity to bid on some wonderful silent auction items donated by area businesses.

At these tables, shoppers could check out the handiwork of the Kid's Club members.  The kids all made craft items and offered them for sale.

Hinds-Jackson manned the raffle table, visiting with stoppers-by and encouraging them to buy, buy, buy!

The event also included some tasty lunch items and literally gallons of ice-cold drinks

Here, one shopper turns around to smile for the camera before continuing to browse through the items for sale.
