[July 30, 2010]  WILMINGTON, Mass. (AP) -- Cartoonists from around the world are submitting works on two themes -- the late Massachusetts Sen. Edward Kennedy and freedom -- for a Massachusetts humor contest.

HardwareMario Barros, a Cuban refugee and organizer of the Bostoon's Boston International Humor Festival, says more than 1,000 works from 400 cartoonists have been submitted. The deadline is Friday.

Cartoonists from places such as Serbia and China have sent in cartoons tackling censorship. Others, from Australia and Latin America, have entered various caricatures highlighting Kennedy's work in the U.S. Senate.

Barros says 200 finalists' work will be showed at Cambridge College in September. The winner for the freedom theme contest gets $5,000. The Kennedy caricature winner gets $3,000.
