[June 09, 2010]  (AP)  Another active weather day was expected over the Midwest on Wednesday as a low pressure system would continue slowly moving eastward throughout the day.

TInsurancehe system would skirt along the U.S. and Canadian border, where it would kick up scattered showers. At the same time, it would also create a strong frontal boundary, including a cold front that would continue pushing down the Mississippi River Valley and a warm front tracking up the Ohio River Valley. Most areas of the mid-Mississippi and Ohio River valleys were expected to see near half an inch of rain, with over an inch likely in areas of thunderstorm development. These storms would reach into the New England states, also kicking up periods of heavy rain, with thunderstorms likely. These storms were expected to turn severe as this system had a history of producing damaging winds, large hail, heavy downpours and even tornadoes. Highs would remain in the 70s across most of the Great Lakes and Midwest.

In the South, a low pressure system high in the atmosphere continued spinning over Texas. This system would pick up moisture from the Gulf of Mexico and trigger another round of scattered showers and thunderstorms over eastern and southern Texas. These storms have a history producing strong and damaging winds. Highs would remain in the 90s over the region, with some areas of the deserts reaching into the 100s.

In the West, another low pressure system moved into the Pacific Northwest, bringing more wet weather with it. Light and scattered showers were expected to extend into northern California, while the southwestern U.S. remains sunny and warm under higher pressure.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Tuesday ranged from a low of 27 degrees at Stanley, Idaho, to a high of 108 degrees at Blythe, Calif.
