A low pressure system moving through Canada was expected to continue pushing a cold front through the northern U.S. This front has a history of producing some severe storms including numerous tornadoes, damaging winds and large hail.

While this front was expected to lose much of its strength on Saturday, it was forecast to continue kicking up scattered showers and thunderstorms as it stretched from the Northeast, down the Ohio River Valley, and into the mid-Mississippi River Valley. But severe storms were not expected to be as likely to develop along the front as the past few days.

In the southeastern states, warm and humid air pushing onshore from the Gulf of Mexico was expected to allow for anther day with scattered afternoon storms. Some of the storms were expected to turn severe, with the possibility for strong and damaging winds with gusts over 60 mph.

In the central U.S., mild weather was anticipated as the cold front moved eastward and higher pressure built over the region. Hot and windy conditions were forecast over the Plains, with the southern Plains reaching into the 90s and the northern Plains in the 80s.

Out West, cool conditions were expected to persist as a trough hovers over the West Coast. It was forecast to pull moisture onshore, allowing for low clouds along the coasts, with windy conditions inland. Sunshine was in the forecast for most of the West on Saturday.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Friday ranged from a low of 26 degrees at Big Piney, Wyo., to a high of 107 degrees at Goodyear, Ariz.
