[June 25, 2010]  A benefit will be held Sunday, June 27, for the Wes Dennis family of Emden, who lost everything in a house fire. The event will be at the Lincoln American Legion, with food, fun and entertainment from 1 to 9 p.m.

Master Gardeners will host their garden walk Saturday, June 26, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Six different gardens plus a container garden exhibit will be on the tour. The cost is $10 per person. The easiest place to start would be the Extension office at 980 N. Postville Drive in Lincoln. You can get your ticket there, view the demonstration beds at the office and view the container garden exhibit. The ticket will have a map and information about the remaining gardens.

The Lincoln Area Music Society invites the public to their third concert Sunday, June 27. The Heritage Ringers of First United Methodist Church will be featured. The Lincoln Woman's Club will serve ice cream and cake. It's at Latham Park and starts at 7 p.m.

The Middletown Presbyterian Church will celebrate its 175th anniversary this Sunday, June 27, with a special service at 9 a.m. with guest gospel group Saved By Grace and then a concert with Saved By Grace at 1 p.m. There will be old photographs and special displays from years past.

YMCA Swim Lessons, Session B will begin July 6 at the Lincoln Elks Club pool. Lessons are available in either the morning or the evening. This program is for kids 6 months to 12 years old with various skill levels. Some classes have started waiting lists, so don't delay; sign up today. Call 735-3915 or visit www.lincolnymca.org.

Summer is here and the heat is on! Escape the misery at the park district pool. The park district offers pool memberships, or you can pay by the dip. Adults can enjoy lap swimming beginning at 11 a.m., and children 6 and under with an adult can splash around without the bigger kids from noon to 1 p.m. daily. Either of these are just $1 per person or your pool pass.

Got a good piece of news, information or something that we can all brag about? If you do, e-mail Mike and let us tell everyone about it. Plus you can win cash. Every submission, whether we use it or not, will get your name in the Close Up grab bag. At the end of the month we will draw a name and someone will get $25 just for dropping us an e-mail. If you wish, we will be happy to donate your winnings to the organization of your choice.
