Poland convicts 3 men in theft of Auschwitz sign

[March 18, 2010]  WARSAW, Poland (AP) -- A Polish court has convicted three men of the theft of the notorious "Arbeit Macht Frei" (Work Sets You Free) sign from the Auschwitz memorial site last December.

The men were given prison sentences ranging from six months to 2 1/2 years.

The court in Krakow said Thursday that the men confessed to the theft, which meant the case did not have to go to trial.
