The
Lincoln FFA Chapter will have another plant sale on Tuesday,
May 4, from 3:30 to 6 p.m. in the high school ag shop.

They have a huge assortment of annuals
and perennials, plus tomatoes and hanging baskets.
Prices have been reduced:

They have wave petunias, petunias, vinca, verbena, nemesia,
begonia, gerbera daisies and dianthus in many different colors.
Plus, there are several other plants to choose from.
Flowers will make a perfect gift for mom on Mother's Day, May 9.

St.
John United Church of Christ is having an ice cream social on
Friday, May 7, at the church. The hours are 4:30-7 p.m. The meal
will include a sandwich, chips, cake, ice cream and drinks. Toppings
will be available for the ice cream.
The price is $6 for adults, with children under 5 eating free.
Congratulations
to Mrs. Iva Mae Snyder-Blaum, who will celebrate her 90th
birthday on Saturday, May 8, at Friendship Manor, 925 Primm Rd. in
Lincoln. The time is 1:30 until 3:30, and all of Iva Mae's friends
and well-wishers are invited to come on out and wish her a happy
birthday. No gifts, please.
The
Lincoln Kiwanis Club will have their annual Mother's Day
buffet on Sunday, May 9, at the Meyer-Evans Student Center at
Lincoln College. The huge assortment of foods is being prepared by
chef Warren Wendlandt and his staff. The buffet will include
peppercorn round of beef, country baked chicken, poached Alaskan
salmon and smoked sausage. There will be a full table of other great
food items, including four vegetables as well as a variety of salads
and spring fruits. Beverages, rolls and breads, and desserts will
also be available for diners.
The price is $13 for adults, $5 for children 7-12, with kids 6
and under eating free.
Tickets are available at the door. The hours for the buffet are
11 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
The
District 27 Spelling Bee will be this Friday, May 7, at 1
p.m. at Lincoln Junior High. Representatives from fourth through
eighth grade from Central, Northwest, Washington-Monroe and LJHS
will participate.
District
27 is sending two students to the Young Authors' Conference at
Illinois State University on May 15. One is Megan Snodgrass,
a fifth-grader at Northwest School. Her parents are Steve and Paula
Snodgrass. Abbigayle Parrish, daughter of Angela Dalton, is
also attending. She is a fourth-grader at Washington-Monroe School.
The entries were judged by District 27 retirees Janet Haning and
Kathy Litherland. This is the 36th annual Illinois Statewide Young
Authors' Conference, sponsored by the Illinois Language and Literacy
Council.

Taylor Coers, daughter of Jim and Erin Coers of Mason City,
attended the American Legion Auxiliary's 56th Department Junior
Conference at Lisle on April 17-18. She served as department junior
secretary for the conference and was elected department junior vice
president for the 57th conference, to be held in 2011. Taylor is
also serving as 17th District junior historian, and her district
history won first at the conference.
She will attend Illini Girls State of the American
Legion Auxiliary in June at Charleston.
She is a member of Lincoln Unit 263 American Legion
Auxiliary and is a junior at Illini Central High School in Mason
City.
Johanna Hebenstreit has been named April
Senior-of-the-Month at Mount Pulaski High School. She is the
daughter of John and Lana Hebenstreit of Mount Pulaski.
Johanna has been a high honor roll student
throughout her high school career. She is a member of National Honor
Society and the WYSE academic team. She has also participated in
band, chorus and the spirit squad.
Johanna has been a very active member of Family,
Career and Community Leaders of America and currently serves as
co-president. She has been involved in blood drives, breast cancer
awareness activities and other community events through the FCCLA
and is the coordinator for the upcoming FCCLA style show.
The Senior-of-the-Month program is co-sponsored by
Johnson's Food Center and Mount Pulaski Pharmacy. Monthly winners
receive $100 savings bonds and are eligible to compete for the
$1,000 Senior-of-the-Year award.
The
Hartsburg-Emden FFA chapter will have plant sales Saturday,
May 8, 8 a.m.-2 p.m., and Sunday, May 9, noon-3 p.m., at the
school's greenhouse. For more information, contact Betsy Pech,

The
Humane Society of Logan County will hold an adopt-a-thon on
Saturday, May 8, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Ace Hardware, 521 N. Kickapoo
St., in Lincoln. These wonderful animals are currently living in
foster homes, have been spayed or neutered, have received necessary
inoculations, and are socialized to be able to move right into your
