[May 04, 2010]  Angela Stoltzenburg, executive director and CEO of the Community Action Partnership of Central Illinois, issued a statement regarding a break-in Saturday at the corporate office.

The statement said that on May 1, the individual hired to mow the lawn at the Community Action offices at 1800 Fifth St. noticed a broken window and notified police.

The police confirmed that there was a break-in, and Community Action staff was called to assess the damage. The damaged window was immediately boarded up.

Several offices were affected by the burglary. Five computer systems, two drills, personal effects and eight two-way radios were taken from the property. There was a total loss of $11,000-$12,000 in items taken from the nonprofit organization.

Administrative operations were affected by the break-in, but the most affected program was the Senior Transportation program, which has lost good communications with its driver and dispatchers, due to the loss of the two-way radios.

The service is still operating, but with limited communication the agency is unable to be as flexible as usual. Instead of taking last-minute additions to the transportation service, the agency is requiring reservations.

An investigation is in progress, and anyone who knows something about the break-in can contact Crime Stoppers at 732-3000.
