[May 05, 2010]  (AP)  Wet weather was forecast to move into the Great Lakes region Wednesday.

A low pressure system continued tracking eastward along the Canadian and U.S. border. Meanwhile, two frontal boundaries would extend just ahead of the system. A cold front would extend southward and sweep through upper and mid-Mississippi Valley, while a warm front would extend eastward into New England. Scattered showers and thunderstorms were expected to develop anywhere along these fronts with rainfall amounts remaining near a quarter of an inch. Up to an inch of rain was likely in areas of thunderstorm development. Forecasters said some of these storms may turn severe as they have a history of producing strong winds and hail. Most of the Midwest and Great Lakes regions would see breezy conditions throughout the day with gusts up to 30 mph.

To the South, a slow moving front hovering over the Florida Panhandle may bring another day of scattered showers and thunderstorms, forecasters said. The rest of the South would see sunny skies and dry conditions with highs in the 80s. The southern Plains were expected to reach into the mid-90s as warm air continued to move in from Mexico.

In the West, another trough of low pressure moving into the Pacific Northwest from western Canada would bring another round of light rain with higher elevation snow to the northern Rockies. Oregon and Washington may see some afternoon thunderstorm development.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Tuesday ranged from a low of 17 degrees at Stanley, Idaho, to a high of 97 degrees at Laredo, Texas.
