Redgrave died Sunday night at her home in Kent., Conn., surrounded by her children. She had been diagnosed with breast cancer in 2002.
Her death came during a difficult time for the famous acting family. Her older brother, Corin Redgrave, died last month and her niece, Natasha Richardson, died last year at age 45 from head injuries suffered in a skiing accident.
Not as acclaimed or outspoken as her older sister, Vanessa Redgrave, Lynn still enjoyed a long career in film and stage, including an Oscar nomination for her 1966 star-making turn in "Georgy Girl."
She will be buried near her mother later Saturday in upstate New York.
