[May 25, 2010]  NEW YORK (AP) -- The Broadway League says theater marquees will be dimmed in memory of Associated Press drama critic Michael Kuchwara (koosh-WAH'-rah).

HardwareBroadway marquees in Manhattan will be dimmed for one minute at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Executive Director Charlotte St. Martin said Monday that Kuchwara was "one of the extra-special people" in the theater world. St. Martin says millions of readers held his work in high esteem, and she praised his support of the industry.

Liza Minnelli and Edward Albee also issued statements.

Minnelli remembered Kuchwara as an artistic and thoughtful man who took pride in his work. Albee called the loss of such "an intelligent and perceptive critic ... an especially sad note."

Kuchwara died Saturday night of complications from a lung disease. He was 63.
