[May 25, 2010]  SAN'A, Yemen (AP) -- A security official says a government airstrike on an al-Qaida hide-out in a remote Yemen province accidentally killed a provincial councilman and his two bodyguards.

The official says the attack in the Wadi Obeida area in Marib province -- about 107 miles (173 kilometers) south of San'a -- took place late Monday night, targeting what was believed to be an al-Qaida stronghold.

A Marib provincial official says clashes erupted on Tuesday between tribesmen protesting those deaths and police.

He says tribesmen attacked government buildings, blew up an oil pipeline and threatened to blow up the Marib oil facility. He says three people died in those clashes.

Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to speak to the media.
