[May 24, 2010]  Responders have been searching since dusk on Saturday for a kayaker who went missing on Salt Creek this weekend. Shortly past 9 p.m. Middletown Rescue, Logan County Paramedics and Logan County Emergency Management Agency were called to begin a search of the creek, beginning at the Polecat Hill bridge and moving upstream. Helicopters were called for immediately also.

Missing is a 32-year-old Waynesville man who went kayaking with friends.

Darkness and turbulent waters made the search slow and time-consuming through the night. Efforts continued on Sunday and yet this morning with no results.

Currently Illinois Department of Natural Resources personnel using photography and sonar have joined in the search.

Last seen north of the Polecat bridge, the kayaker moved ahead of his group. When friends stopped and took to the bank, their friend was nowhere in sight.

Emergency responders found the kayak late last evening just past the bridge, wedged into a large logjam on the creek.

DNR as well as Logan County EMA continue to search for the man. Local fire departments have lent assistance also.
