[May 28, 2010]  (AP)  Scattered storms were forecast to persist in the East Coast, while the West would remain wet Friday.

HardwareA low pressure system in the Northeast continued pushing a cold front down the East Coast, which also pushed moisture in from the Atlantic Ocean. This system was capable of producing strong storms, thus, heavy rain, large hail and strong winds were expected to develop along this front. Storms would most likely turn severe over the Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern states. As this front passed, the region would see a significant drop in temperatures. New England and the Northeast would return to the 60s and 70s. However, the Southeast would reach into the 90s again Friday.

Behind this system in the Plains, a ridge of high pressure was expected to allow for another sunny and warm day. The Midwest and Plains would remain in the 80s.

Out West, another cool and dreary day was expected as lower pressure hovered over the Pacific Northwest and northern Rockies. This system would push Pacific moisture inland, while also pulling in cool air from Canada. Thus, higher elevations of the northern Rockies, Great Basin, Cascades and Sierra Nevadas would see another snowy day. Most areas were expected to see between 1-3 inches of snow. Forecasters said a few light rain showers may persist over the Pacific Northwest and northern California, while most of the West Coast would see diminishing clouds throughout the day.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Thursday ranged from a low of 30 degrees at Eureka, Nev., to a high of 98 degrees at Frederick, Md.
