Stock futures point to gains; gold jumps

[November 09, 2010]  NEW YORK (AP) -- Stocks are poised to open slightly higher, a day after a modest decline in the Dow Jones industrial average broke a six-day streak of gains.

InsuranceGlobal stock markets are mixed Tuesday and gold continues to extend its gains.

U.S. stock futures are higher with the Dow Jones industrials up 27, or 0.3 percent, to 11,391 ahead of the opening. S&P 500 futures are up 3, or 0.2 percent, to 1,223, while Nasdaq 100 futures are up 8, or 0.4 percent, to 2,192.

Overseas, the Euro Stoxx 50, which tracks blue chip companies in Europe, is up 0.8 percent. China's Shanghai Composite index closed 0.8 percent lower.

Gold is up 1.2 percent at $1,419 an ounce.

The earnings calendar is light. Dean Foods and Sempra Energy are among the companies set to report.
