In Romania, neighbors say child mom older than 10

[November 09, 2010]  BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) -- The former neighbors of a Romanian girl who gave birth last week in Spain claim that she is more than 10 years old.

Neighbors gathered outside the shabby four-story apartment building on Tuesday where the girl spent her early years before moving to Spain. They told the Associated Press they were indignant about "lies" that the girl was just 10 when she became a mother.

Several neighbors in Bucharest's impoverished Ferentari district said they believed she was between 13 and 15 years old.

Plasterer Ionel Mutu, 43, said he remembered when the girl's mother moved to Spain with her daughter in the 1990s in search of a better life.
