Bars closed? Pa. church offers late-night Mass

[November 13, 2010]  PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Pittsburgh churches used to offer middle-of-the-night services for employees who worked odd hours.

One church is bringing the tradition back with a 2:30 a.m. service. The Rev. Carmen D'Amico said he's adding a weekly Mass on Sundays, timed for just after the bars close. D'Amico is hoping to attract those out late on Saturday nights. Officials have been handing out fliers at local colleges to publicize the new service.

The early Mass hasn't been held since 1991.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports the service was dubbed the "Printer's Mass," because it was popular with newspaper employees. Some had just finished their shifts while others would attend Mass and then go deliver newspapers.
