Ill. woman, 90, a real Tiger on the tennis court

[November 15, 2010]  OAK LAWN (AP) -- Ninety-year-old Mary Jane Murphy is delivering a stiff backhand to old age.

Murphy, the mother of 10, said she doesn't feel a a day over "55 or 60" when she takes to the tennis court. She's played doubles twice a week for more than 30 years at the Oak Lawn Racquet Club outside Chicago. And when the weather is nice, she likes to golf.

Murphy was honored earlier this week by the Oak Lawn Park District for her many achievements. Not only is she a charter member of the club, she's a formidable foe on the court, serving, slicing, smashing and putting some spin on that tennis ball.

That is enough to earn the grandmother of 30 a rather tough nickname: Tiger.

When asked if she might be a tad aggressive, Murphy admitted she likes to win.
