[November 22, 2010]  (AP)  Another round of wintry weather activity was expected to move into the Pacific Northwest on Monday. A cold storm system was forecast to drop southward out of British Columbia, pushing a frontal boundary into the Pacific Northwest.

Plenty of bitter cold air was to accompany this disturbance and allow snow levels across the western regions of Washington and Oregon to drop down to near sea level by the late afternoon. Light snow accumulations were expected in the central and southern valleys of the Pacific Northwest with up to 2 inches by the evening.

Meanwhile, scattered rain and high elevation snow was expected to continue to blanket areas of the interior Northwest, northern California, and the Great Basin. Much of the West was forecast to remain under a variety of winter weather advisories and winter storm warnings.

In the East, more active weather was expected in the Midwest as a weakening low pressure system in the upper Midwest lifted northeastward across the upper Great Lakes into southern Canada. An associated cold front was to trail behind this system, triggering gusty winds, showers and chances of thunderstorms from southern Michigan through Missouri.

A new low was expected to develop along the tail of this front, sparking a moderate wintry mix of precipitation from the Dakotas through Wisconsin by the evening. Snow accumulations were expected to range from 3 to 5 inches with locally higher amounts. Moderate north winds may create periods of blowing snow and lowered visibility.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Sunday ranged from a low of minus 19 degrees at Cut Bank, Mont., to a high of 90 degrees at Laredo, Texas.
