[November 22, 2010]  SPRINGFIELD (AP) -- Academy Award-winning actor Daniel Day-Lewis has visited Springfield as he prepares to play Abraham Lincoln.

HardwareDreamsWorks Studios announced Friday that Day-Lewis would star as the president in the Steven Spielberg-directed film "Lincoln." The movie is based on the book "Team of Rivals" by Doris Kearns Goodwin. The screenplay is by award-winning writer Tony Kushner.

The State Journal-Register reported that Day-Lewis and Goodwin toured the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum, the Lincoln Home, the Old State Capitol and the Lincoln-Herndon Law Offices on Friday.

Co-producer Kathleen Kennedy tells the newspaper the group felt moved after visiting the vault below the library and seeing several Lincoln artifacts.

According to DreamWorks, filming is expected to begin in fall 2011 and the movie is to be released in late 2012.
