Kaine also tells NBC's "Today" show that differences exist among Democrats over such issues as the economy and health care because of the party's diversity, calling that a good thing. He acknowledges that it can be "occasionally maddening."
The former Virginia governor says generic and race-to-race polls since Labor Day "have been moving pretty dramatically in Democrats' favor." And he adds that some tension within the party is the result of Democrats doing the "heavy lifting" on policy changes. The party is trying to hang onto control of Congress in the Nov. 2 elections.
