Vehicle accident sends 2 to hospital

[October 06, 2010]  SPRINGFIELD -- Illinois State Police released the following accident report:

Incident: Single-vehicle crash with injuries

Location: Illinois Route 121 southbound just east of Illinois Route 54

Date, time: Oct. 5, 12:30 p.m.

Individuals involved: Driver: William D. Hughes, 17-year-old male, New Holland. Passengers: Curtis R. Moore, 30-year-old male, New Holland; Jennifer L. Moore, 36-year-old female, New Holland; 6-year-old female, New Holland

Assisting agencies: Logan County Sheriff's Department, Latham Police Department, Latham Fire Department, Mount Pulaski EMS, Logan County Paramedics, Mount Pulaski Paramedics

Narrative:

William Hughes was driving an Audi passenger car southbound on Illinois Route 121 in Logan County. As he approached 1750 Avenue, his vehicle left the roadway and overturned. Hughes said the vehicle went off the road to the right and slid in the gravel. He tried to gain control of the vehicle but overcorrected his steering and drove off the roadway to the left and entered the ditch. The vehicle drove through the ditch and crashed into a concrete culvert. The Audi overturned on its roof in a cornfield just north of the road.

Hughes and Curtis Moore refused medical treatment. Jennifer Moore and the 6-year-old female were transported to Memorial Medical Center in Springfield with serious injuries.
