LC volleyball defeats nationally ranked Lincoln Land

[October 07, 2010]  SPRINGFIELD -- The Lincoln College volleyball team picked up their first win against a nationally ranked opponent and ran their winning streak to six in row with a victory at Lincoln Land Community College (No. 17). The match was hard-fought from start to finish as evidenced by the close scores.

Lincoln Land took set one 25-23, but LC (14-14) rebounded in set two to win 26-24. The two teams were neck and neck again in set three, but Lincoln came through with a 25-23 win. Set four saw Lincoln's confidence grow as they built a sizable lead, then held on for a 25-20 win to take the match.

LC individual stats:

  • Emily Fox: 19 set assists, 13 digs, 7 points

  • Kristen Wright: 12 set assists, 7 points

  • Alexis Nelson: 15 kills, 19 digs

  • Natalia Florczyk: 10 kills, 20 digs, 8 points

  • Chelsea Rhoades: 5 kills, 8 blocks

  • Markeshia Williams: 15 digs, 12 points

  • Danielle Stephenson: 3 kills, 2 blocks

LC coach Mark Tippett commented: "I could not be more proud of the effort our players put into this match. We went toe-to-toe with a very good team and showed that we are capable of playing at a very high level. The growth this team has shown during the last two weeks has been tremendous."
