[October 06, 2010]  Starting in the fall of 2010, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is advising that the flu vaccine be recommended for everyone regardless of age or risk factor for influenza. The suggestion of "universal influenza vaccine" is hoped to reduce some of the confusion and difficulty of identifying high-risk groups, as well as making the message simpler for the public. It also reflects the fact that people under the age of 65 were at much higher risk for complications and death from H1N1.

This season's flu shot will include protection against both H1N1 and seasonal flu. Therefore only one shot will be needed.

The Logan County Department of Public Health is currently offering the seasonal flu vaccine for adults 19 years of age and older through walk-in clinics hours Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. and on the HOPE Mobile during its regularly scheduled stops.

By mid-October the seasonal flu vaccine will be available for children 6 months through 18 years of age.
