[October 09, 2010]  (AP)  A strong storm in the Pacific was forecast to bring a lot of rain to the Pacific Northwest on Saturday, particularly in Washington and Oregon.

Scattered rain was also expected in the northern Plains, especially in North and South Dakota, as a weak low pressure system moved through the area.

A ridge of high pressure was forecast to move into the eastern third of the country, providing another day of dry and mostly clear conditions.

In the tropics, Hurricane Otto was expected to continue moving northeastward, well away from the Eastern Seaboard, and forecasters did not think it would be a problem for any major landmasses.

The Northeast was forecast to rise into the 60s and 70s, while the Southeast was expected to see temperatures in the 80s and 90s. Temperatures in the Plains were to rise into the 80s and 90s, while the Northwest was to see 60s and 70s.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Friday ranged from a low of 23 degrees at Berthoud Pass, Colo., to a high of 94 degrees at Monroe, La.
