SNL takes another jab at Delaware's O'Donnell

[October 11, 2010]  WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) -- "Saturday Night Live" has taken another jab at Delaware Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell, making light of her recent television campaign ad.

In the political ad that debuted this week, O'Donnell tells the camera, "I'm not a witch." The line from O'Donnell's ad is itself a riff on comments she made on a talk show in 1999.

The spoof, featuring SNL actress Kristen Wiig, uses a similar close-up on the subject's face and some similar lines. It then diverges into an absurd take on the O'Donnell ad.

"Isn't that what the people of Delaware deserve?" Wiig asks. "A candidate who promises first and foremost that she's not a witch? That's the kind of candidate Delaware hasn't had since 1692."

She got a second mention during the show's regular "Weekend Update" sketch.

The comedy show kicked off its season with an O'Donnell sketch late last month. Two O'Donnell spokespeople didn't immediately respond to e-mails seeking comment after hours.
