[October 08, 2010]  The Lincoln Kiwanis Club and chef Warren Wendlandt invite everyone to a feast on Sunday, Oct. 10, at the Meyer-Evans center on the Lincoln College campus.

As always there will be dozens of choices to fit the tastes of everyone in your family. Main entrees will be country ham, beef stew, herbed chicken and savory chili with toppings. There will be a full table of side dishes as well as salads and pastas to choose from.

Plus there will be Chef Warren's famous bread and dessert tables to complement a great meal.

Tickets are $11 for adults, $5 for children 7-10, with youngsters under 6 eating free.

Tickets can be purchased from any Kiwanian or at the door.

All proceeds go to fund area youth projects.

The Hartem Community Club invites everyone out to their school carnival on Oct. 16, 4-7 p.m. They will have games for all ages -- young and young at heart! And yes! There will be BINGO! A meal will be served from 4 to 7 p.m.: $5 pork chop, $3 hot dog, with chips, carrots and celery, and dessert. The location is the Hartsburg-Emden Grade School, 309 Market St. in Emden.

The Lincoln Woman's Club will meet on Wednesday, Oct. 20, at noon for a luncheon at the Woman's Club Building in Lincoln. Reservations are required. The speaker will be Rebecca Van Nydeggen from the local Salvation Army. Greeters will be Charlotte Bennett and Burnetta DePuy. Louann Bleess will have devotions, and the social chairs will be Carolyn Smith and Clara Douthit. Members are reminded to bring used metal cookie tins, heavy socks for the Indian project and items for veterans.

The first Life Banquet for the Pregnancy Resource Center is approaching quickly. The banquet is on Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. at Sangamon Prairie Reception Center on Route 4 in Chatham. There is no cost to attend the dinner; however, an opportunity to make a financial contribution to the ministry will be extended. Know someone who might want to hear more about the ministry of the PRC? Consider hosting a table and inviting your friends and family to join you for the banquet. To reserve your seat (or table) at the banquet, give them a call at 217-528-6511 or e-mail PRC at springfield@hopeforafuture.com. Come celebrate life and 25 years of ministry with Pregnancy Resource Center.

Got a good piece of news, information or something that we can all brag about? If you do, e-mail Mike and let us tell everyone about it. Plus you can win cash. Every submission, whether we use it or not, will get your name in the Close Up grab bag. At the end of the month we will draw a name and someone will get $25 just for dropping us an e-mail. If you wish, we will be happy to donate your winnings to the organization of your choice.
