[October 12, 2010]  LONDON (AP) -- Six writers, including two-time winner Peter Carey, are up for literature's prestigious Booker Prize.

HardwareAustralian novelist Carey will learn later Tuesday whether he has pulled off a hat trick with his historical novel "Parrot and Olivier in America."

British writer Tom McCarthy is the bookies' favorite for his experimental tale of time and technology, "C."

The other contenders are "In a Strange Room" by South Africa's Damon Galgut; "Room" by Irish-Canadian writer Emma Donoghue; and two British novels -- Howard Jacobson's "The Finkler Question" and Andrea Levy's "The Long Song."

The Booker is open to writers from Britain, Ireland and the Commonwealth of former British colonies.

The winner receives 50,000 pounds ($80,000) and a big publicity boost.
