[October 12, 2010] (AP) Scattered showers will develop across the central U.S. on Tuesday as multiple systems move through the Plains. A low pressure system will continue sweeping eastward across the South, moving from the southern Plains and into the lower Mississippi River Valley.

Hardware The system will pull a cold front with it, while flow around the system will pull moisture in from the Gulf of Mexico. These warm and humid conditions will allow for scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop along the front.

Expect rainfall totals from 1-2 inches, while severe weather may also develop, as the system has a history of producing strong winds and large hail. Highs across the Southeast will remain in the 80s.

In the North, a low pressure system moving eastward through central Canada will produce a cold front that extends into the northern U.S. The front will move from the northern Rockies into the northern Plains, kicking up a few scattered showers.

This front will bring some cool Canadian air into the northern U.S. Highs will reach into the 50s, while overnight lows will dip into the 30s.

Elsewhere in the East, a front will slowly move offshore and away from the Northeast and New England. Scattered showers will diminish over the region throughout the day, while highs will remain in the 50s and 60s.

Out West, a strong ridge of high pressure continues dominating the weather across the Pacific Northwest and California. Hot and dry air will allow for favorable fire conditions, and advisories are in effect for much of California.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Monday ranged from a low of 21 degrees at Alamosa, Colo., to a high of 103 degrees at Indio, Calif.
