[October 13, 2010] (AP) Expect wet weather in the East on Wednesday, as two low pressure systems move in from the Plains and over the Mississippi River Valley. A low pressure system in the lower Mississippi River Valley will move northeastward and up the Ohio River Valley.

The system will continue pulling in ample moisture from the Gulf of Mexico and will allow scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop. These storms have a history of producing severe weather, and strong winds, large hail and heavy rain could develop anywhere over the Ohio River Valley and New England.

Rainfall totals were expected to range from 1-2 inches.

Meanwhile, another low pressure system moves eastward from central Canada to the eastern part of the country. This system creates a cold front that pushes in cool air from the north, while also kicking up clouds that may produce a few scattered showers. The Midwest and New England will see a wet, dreary and cool day with highs ranging in the 50s and 60s.

Elsewhere, high pressure hovers over the West Coast and brings another warm and dry day as it pushes moisture offshore and into the Pacific. These conditions are favorable for rapid fire spread, and advisories will remain in effect over much of northern California.

To the north, a low pressure system spinning in the Gulf of Alaska will push a front over British Columbia. This front will extend into the Pacific Northwest and may kick up a few scattered clouds, but precipitation is not anticipated.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Tuesday ranged from a low of 18 degrees at Stanley, Idaho, to a high of 97 degrees at Palm Springs, Calif.
