Johnston Center for Performing Arts at Lincoln College on Oct. 29
from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The public is cordially invited to attend.
The Lincoln College food service will serve hors d'oeuvres.Beaver, who is professor emeritus of history at Lincoln
College, said he has long desired to write a book on Abraham Lincoln's
activities
that would use much of the history from Judge Lawrence B. Stringer's
1911 "History of Logan County" along with local historical discoveries from the
past century. This book is therefore a culmination of years of
investigation and study.
The book of 200-plus pages contains over 60 photos and
illustrations -- most of which include Abraham Lincoln's activities
in Logan County -- several heretofore unknown. Most of the
illustrations by Lloyd Ostendorf are in color.
Beaver was assisted in writing this work by Ron Keller, Lincoln
College professor and curator
of the Lincoln Heritage Museum at the college, and by retired high
school teacher Phil Bertoni of Mount Pulaski. Keller contributed a
chapter on Lincoln's political activities and Bertoni one on
Lincoln's visits and work as a lawyer at the Mount Pulaski court.
Bertoni also did the final word
processing, picture layouts and formatting of the book.
The editorial team also included consultant Richard Sumrall and
editors Jacquelyn Baker, Wanda Lee Rohlfs, Theresa Richert, Lynn
Spellman and Patty Guzouskis, who did the preliminary word processing. All are
from Lincoln.
