Dan Johnson (left) and Paul Wagahoft from Long Elevator Co. work on bringing voice to the elevator at Friendship Manor.

The software will allow vision-impaired residents to hear what direction and floor the elevator is moving to, and it will give directions in case of a fire. The grant was funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act given to Illinois and administered by the Illinois Department of Human Services, Division of Rehabilitation Services, Bureau of Blind Services.
