[October 27, 2010]  NEW YORK (AP) -- Charlie Sheen's representative says the actor was taken to a hospital after an allergic reaction to medication.

The spokesman, Stan Rosenfield, said Sheen is expected to be released Wednesday.

A law enforcement official says actor Charlie Sheen was hospitalized for a psychiatric evaluation after a woman told police he was throwing furniture in his New York City hotel room.

The official tells The Associated Press that police were called to Sheen's room at The Plaza around 2 a.m. Tuesday.

The official says a woman in his room told police the 45-year-old star of CBS' "Two and a Half Men" was highly intoxicated and had been yelling and throwing furniture. The official says Sheen was not arrested, but checked himself into a hospital for an evaluation.

The official was not authorized to speak publicly about the incident and spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity.

A message left with Sheen's publicist Tuesday was not immediately returned.
