[October 30, 2010]  (AP)  More wet weather was in the forecast for the West, while a pleasant autumn day was anticipated across the rest of the nation Saturday. A trough of low pressure was expected to continue moving eastward, toward the West Coast, and continue pushing a cold front onshore.

Behind this system, a secondary front was forecast to move through later in the day. The first front was expected to reach into central and Southern California, kicking up scattered showers, with a chance of thunderstorms, and snow at higher elevations.

The forecast called for the second front to follow in the same path, starting over the Pacific Northwest and Northern California. More showers were in the forecast because the system was expected to be rich in moisture after initially moving onshore. This system was also expected to bring cool air in from the north, allowing for highs to reach only into the 40s and 50s across most of the West Coast, while Southern California was forecast to reach into the mid-60s to 70.

Elsewhere, a wide ridge of high pressure stretched from the Plains, over the Mississippi River Valley, and to the East Coast, and was expected to bring mostly sunny skies with it. While the leading edge of this system pushed cool Canadian air into the eastern United States, the backside of the system was expected to bring warm air in from the South. Thus, the Northeast and Great Lakes were forecast to have another chilly day in the 50s, but the Midwest and New England were expected to have a pleasant fall day in the 60s. Temperatures in the southern Plains and Southeast were expected to be in the 70s to near 80.

Temperatures in the lower 48 states Friday ranged from a low of 14 degrees at Pinedale, Wyo., to a high of 88 degrees at Kendall, Fla.
