[September 17, 2010]  Tim Heitzig was named employee of the month at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital for September for his professionalism and skills, as well as for being a leader.

Insurance"Tim demonstrates immense concern and compassion to the patients seen in rehab," according to co-worker Elise Anderson. "He is a very skilled and knowledgeable physical therapist who implements effective and evidence-based treatment plans to promote progress in the patients' therapy and to promote health-conscious lifestyles."

A seven-year employee of ALMH, Heitzig was nominated not only because he's professional, but also because he makes the hospital a great place to work, pitching in to help clean and organize and to develop new procedures to make Rehabilitation Services a better department.

"He leads our team meetings with precision and expertise in getting the job done," Anderson says. "Tim produces great results in the fact that his patients gain functional strength and are able to return to a level that allows them to enjoy life."

Heitzig says he enjoys the teamwork found at ALMH.

"I work with a great team in my department and on a larger scale throughout the hospital," he says. "I really have fun with the people I work with."

Heitzig has a bachelor's degree in kinesiology from the University of Illinois and a master's degree in physical therapy from Midwestern University. He points out that currently all schools offer only master's or doctoral degrees for students who intend to work as physical therapists. He suggests anyone interested in the career observe or volunteer in a clinical setting.

His job includes seeing a wide variety of patients in an outpatient environment for anything from stroke to amputation to having pain in the back, neck, knees or shoulders.

"I teach them exercises, treat their pain and perform spinal manipulation as needed," Heitzig says. "Physical therapy is a great career. It allows you to work in many different settings, and there will always be a need for therapists."

ALMH employs more than 290 in a wide variety of job functions. A different employee is honored each month for their commitment to creating great patient experiences, getting great results and making ALMH a great place to work.
