[September 18, 2010]  (AP)  Another cold front was forecast to develop over the Midwest as high pressure built over the eastern half of the country.

The system was expected to push through the Great Lakes and stretch from the Northeast, down the Ohio River Valley and into the mid-Mississippi River Valley.

HardwareIt was not forecast to be as moisture-rich as the previous front that kicked up periods of heavy storms. However, it was expected to be capable of producing some strong winds, hail and even a few tornadoes.

The system was forecast to pull some cool air into the northern Plains and upper Midwest from central Canada. Highs were to range in the 50s, while the Ohio River Valley and New England were to remain in the 60s and 70s.

In the South, a stationary front was forecast to linger over the Mid-Atlantic and Gulf states. It was expected to continue pulling moisture in from the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean and produce scattered afternoon thunderstorms over the region. Another hot and humid day was expected with highs in the 90s.

Another wet day was in store for the Pacific Northwest. A low pressure system in the Pacific Ocean was to continue pushing a moist front onshore, stretching into northern California. It was forecast to kick up some scattered showers, with partly cloudy skies developing over most of the West Coast.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Friday ranged from a low of 30 degrees at Stanley, Idaho, to a high of 98 degrees at Gila Bend, Ariz.
