Thompson,
the top LCU student runner, came in second this year and was the
only other racer eclipsing the 11-minute mark, with a time of 10:57.
Other records were set by Dr. Jeff Snell (45), best faculty finisher
at 14:33, and Bethany Alt, best LCU female at 14:36. Perennial
participant Dave Nordhielm (43) of Washington won the masters
category at 11:11, while Ken Endrizzi (50) of Normal led the non-LCU
masters at 11:05. LCU alum Tom Seckler (46) of Cambodia ran the
fastest race by a visiting missionary at 13:34.
Race director Ann
Spellman reports a record-breaking year of 166 entrants for the
event and 149 finishers.
More than 50 volunteers give their time in such areas as timing,
record keeping, course preparation, setup, traffic control,
security, hydration station service, food and beverage preparation
and distribution, medal and trophy distribution, and cleanup.
The Illinois State University Athletic Trainers' Club was on hand
to provide injury consultation, massages, body composition
assessments and blood pressure checks.
More than 35 local and area businesses, agencies and individuals
supported the race through sponsorship and providing door prizes.
Many runners brought T-shirts and running shoes for the Northwest
Haiti Christian Mission in St. Louis du Nord, Haiti. These items
will accompany LCU's Week of Evangelism group that heads out later
this month.
In addition, LCU will send a portion of race proceeds to
International Disaster Emergency Service to support Japan's
earthquake and tsunami survivors.
