[August 01, 2011]  BANGKOK (AP) -- Thailand is preparing to usher in a new government after the Crown Prince officially opens Parliament.

The ceremony led by Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn late Monday afternoon follows the July 3 election victory of a party loyal to former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

Thaksin was deposed by a 2006 military coup that was followed by a sometimes violent struggle for power between his supporters and opponents. The election victory of the Pheu Thai Party of his sister Yingluck Shinawatra takes back power from the rival Democrat Party.

The 500-seat lower house will convene Tuesday morning with the election of the House Speaker and two deputies. Yingluck is expected to become prime minister by early next week.
