[July 30, 2011]  The Logan-Menard-Sangamon Unit of University of Illinois Extension is forming a 4-H Robotics Club starting in September. The special interest club aims to teach concepts of robotic design, programming, control and GPS/geocaching technology. Available programs will include virtual robotics, junk drawer robotics, robotics platforms, GPS/geocaching and mechatronics.

The volunteer leaders for this group include a robotics researcher and a certified GPS/GIS-RS trainer.

All youth from fourth grade to high school, both 4-H members and nonmembers, are invited to an informational meeting on Aug. 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. at University of Illinois Extension Building 30 on the state fairgrounds in Springfield. Enter from Gate 7 or 11. Parents or grandparents are encouraged to attend with their children or grandchildren, and it provides an opportunity to meet the expert volunteer leaders. There is no cost to come to the informational meeting.

Meetings and workshops in Lincoln are planned for eight weeks, on Mondays, beginning Sept 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Logan County Extension building.

There is a $20 4-H program fee, good for one year, for new 4-H members.

For more information or to enroll, contact the Logan County Extension office at 217-732-8289. Space is limited, so enroll today.
