On Aug. 16, the Commission on Government Forecasting and
Accountability voted to allow the Department of Healthcare and
Family Services to negotiate contract extensions through June 30,
2012. The current contracts had been set expire on Sept. 28. "This
is good news for thousands of Illinois citizens who have faced
uncertainty with their health coverage as a result of poor
leadership and knee-jerk decisions by the current administration,"
Brady said. "And the work to resolve this situation must continue,
before we find ourselves back in this same position next June."
The 44th District senator was one of 34 senators who sent a
letter to the governor on May 6 asking for the "detailed financial
information" used in the decision to drop Health Alliance and
Humana.
"My legislative office has had quite a few calls about the
announcement in April that the state was dropping Health Alliance
and Humana insurance plans from state's group health insurance
program," Brady said. "The callers have said how unfair the decision
is and questioned why the change was done so secretly, quickly and
without the input of the patients who will be affected."
