Jeff. St. youth group fun in the sun

[August 20, 2011]  On alternate Thursdays this summer, the junior high youth at Jefferson Street Christian Church got together and did outrageous things with a homemade slippery slide, jello, pudding and other fun stuff your mom tells you not to get all over the house. Stephanie Ellis was the organizer, adult leader and instigator of much that was messy.

Ellis began at Jefferson Street Christian Church in June by developing a junior high ministry. She graduated from Lincoln Christian University in May 2010 with a degree in worship ministry.

"Our youth minister, Kyle Alt, is basically charged with focusing on the high school students," Ellis said. "I started pulling the junior high students together to give them things to do and create an outlet for their energy."

This summer the group played ultimate Frisbee and dodge ball and took a trip to Six Flags. They also tossed pudding at each other and played egg tag. For that game, there are two-man teams, with an egg duct-taped to the back of one person on the team. The eggless person guards the teammate, while the object of the game is to smash the opponents' eggs, which can be very gooey and sticky.

The summer group had an end-of-the-summer cookout at Kickapoo Creek Park on Thursday evening.
