Defense Secretary Liam Fox said Thursday that NATO was playing an active role in efforts to locate the fugitive Libyan dictator, but didn't offer specifics on the types of tasks the military coalition is carrying out.
He also declined to confirm whether troops from Britain's elite Special Air Service or Special Boat Service had joined the race to find Gadhafi.
British officials never publicly comment on the work of special forces.
But Fox said NATO was "providing intelligence and reconnaissance assets to help in the hunt," and had been heavily active overnight in carrying out airstrikes against Gadhafi loyalists.
