[December 02, 2011 Like little elves in the holiday workshop, students at Carroll Catholic School have been busy making items for Carroll's upcoming Christmas Bazaar scheduled for Sunday, from 7:30 a.m. to noon, in the school gym and cafeteria. Peggy Morrow, co-coordinator for the event, said the bazaar has been a Carroll Catholic tradition for over 40 years.

Third- and fourth-grade students made ornaments Wednesday afternoon, using art time to create brightly colored decorations for Christmas trees that need a special something.

Early Thursday morning, kindergarten and elementary students made pumpkin bread -- 65 spicy-smelling loaves that will go into the Bake Shop at Sunday's event. While students mixed batter and filled loaf pans, the fragrance greeted visitors at the door and most likely lingered throughout the day. The bread should sell quickly.

Sunday's activities begin with a buffet breakfast ($7 for adults; $3.50 for 4 to 12 years; free for age 3 and under). The raffle tables, cookies, sweets, assorted sale items and fun things to do will fill the morning with fun and good cheer.

Isaiah, Eric, Ashley and Lexy talked about their design ideas and shared suggestions for decoration.

Kelsey, Mia, Dylan, Davin, Cody and Ethan focused on their individual ornaments and had no trouble deciding which foam decorations they wanted to use.

Luke, Matthew, Krystine, Isha and Liam were trying out the puff paint and found it to be a tricky addition to the design process.

Mrs. Zyks helped Luke spread puff paint on his ornament and find a cover for the bottom.

Aidan (first grade) and Brandy (sixth) were paired to make batter and fill pans. They made five loaves of pumpkin bread. In all, 65 loaves of pumpkin bread were made on Thursday.

Zackary (fifth grade) watched the kitchen staff and counted loaf pans that were in line for the oven. The bread will be sold in the Bake Shop at the Christmas Bazaar on Sunday.

Kindergartners Julianna, Elaine and Ella cleaned tables with the help of Gary Hughes, Elaine's grandfather. Hughes volunteers often at Carroll Catholic School and is a photographer at events.

Judith Gordon and Maxine Nelson are the cooks at Carroll Catholic School. They helped by baking the pumpkin bread, but students prepared the batter and filled the pans.
