Even with certain expectations, Stone warned that the milestone won't be cut-and-dried. "We will be confused when it first happens," Stone said. Voyager 1 and its twin, Voyager 2, were launched in 1977 to tour the outer planets including Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. After their main mission ended, both headed toward interstellar space in opposite directions.
