This storm will be cold enough to produce high-elevation snow and plenty of low-elevation rain in the Four Corners region. Winter
storm warnings are in effect for elevations higher than 5,500 feet, as over a foot of snow will fall. Snow levels in some areas will be as low as 4,000 feet. This storm will have the potential of being particularly strong in the Plains during the second half of the week.
Before the storm arrives in the Plains, however, moderate to heavy rain will form late in the day in the
central Plains from Kansas through Illinois.
Meanwhile, a high pressure system over the eastern third of the country will continue to provide dry conditions east of the Mississippi Valley.
The Northwest will also remain dry due to a high pressure system that will also keep conditions quite cool.
The Northeast will rise into the 30s and 40s, while the Southeast will see temperatures in the 50s, 60s, and some 70s. The
northern Plains will rise into the 20s and 30s, while the Northwest will see temperatures into the 40s.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Monday ranged from a morning low of
minus 11 degrees at West Yellowstone, Mont., to a high of 82 degrees at Opa Locka, Fla.
