The blizzard takes hold ![Click on photos below to enlarge.]
By the afternoon, it was apparent that this wasn't going to be just another snow. Brisk, high winds made for blizzard conditions.

By 2:30 p.m. certain areas were in whiteout conditions. In this particular picture, visibility is about one city block.
By 4:30 there is a 3-foot ring of snowdrift all the way around this house...
...snow sticking to siding and filling in doorways...
...along with snow drifting on the rooftop and blowing off the eaves.
Late afternoon there were whiteout conditions even on city streets.
The streets become quiet as everyone gets home and stays home.
