NYPD: 3 stabbed to death, 2 hurt in rampage

[February 12, 2011]  NEW YORK (AP) -- A 23-year-old man went on a deadly stabbing spree that spread over 11 hours on Friday, killing first his stepfather, then his girlfriend and her mother before injuring two others as he escaped, police said.

The New York Police Department launched a manhunt for Maksim Gelman, saying he had stabbed Aleksandr Kuznetsov "numerous" times at around 5 a.m. Friday. Police found the 54-year-old's body inside his home in Brooklyn's Sheepshead Bay neighborhood after receiving a 911 call reporting a stabbing at that address. About 11 hours later, police received another 911 call reporting a stabbing just a few blocks away. When they arrived, police discovered the bodies of Gelman's girlfriend and her mother, said police, who declined to release the victims' names. Police say Gelman escaped in a Lexus he had stolen earlier that day, drove a few blocks north before carjacking and stabbing another driver, then hitting a pedestrian as he escaped.
