On Thursday, the IHSA released the seeds for the upcoming Class
3A state basketball tournament. In what should be no surprise,
Lincoln received the top seed in a regional they will host
starting Feb. 28. The Railers (21-4) will try to break the
curse of hosting a regional. The previous two opportunities Lincoln
has had to hoist the regional plaque at Roy S. Anderson have ended up
in an early end to the season.
In what some may consider a surprise, Springfield Lanphier picked up
the No. 2 seed, while SHG fell to 3. The Cyclones,
Lincoln's opponent tonight, were seeded based on a 17-6 record, but
the numbers fell Lanphier's (13-9) way.
Morton, winners of 15 games, are the No. 4 seed, while Mark Gilchrese and Springfield have the
No. 5 seed. Yes, that same
Springfield that has beaten Lincoln twice, is the bottom seed in
this regional.
Think you know who is going to win this regional?
This may be the most tightly contested regional in the state.
With the seeds released on Thursday, the official pairings will be
released later today. IF the IHSA sticks to a normal setup for a
five-team regional, the matchups should look something like this:
Game 1 -- No. 4 Morton vs. No. 5 Springfield
Game 2 -- No. 1 Lincoln vs. Game 1 winner
Game 3 -- No. 2 Lanphier vs. No. 3 SHG
Game 4 -- Game 2 winner vs. Game 3 winner

Should be an interesting regional. Make sure to check back here
on Saturday for an update on the pairings as well as a recap of
tonight's Railer contest against SHG. Railer Nation is hoping
this one turns out better than the one in Springfield.
Another note about tonight's game: The "Pack the Pantry"
event will be this weekend. When you head out to Roy S. Anderson, make sure
you bring as many nonperishable items as you can to help out in stocking the
local food pantry. Whatever you bring will be greatly appreciated. Hope to
see you there tonight!
